On October 15, 2008, the Department of Labor released a notice in the Federal Register requesting information from the public on the use of forced child labor in the production of bricks, coal, foundry products, chemicals, cotton, grape products, toys, and fireworks in China under Executive Order 13126. The comment period will be open for 60 days (through December 14th).

October 7, 2008: Tulane University Submits Second Annual Report to Congress on Cocoa Sector Oversight
On October 7, 2008, Tulane University submitted to the U.S. Congress the Second Annual Report on Oversight of Public and Private Initiatives to Eliminate the Worst Forms of Child Labor in the Cocoa Sector in Cote d'Ivoire and Ghana. The report highlights progress being made to implement the Harkin-Engel Child Labor Cocoa Protocol and is the second in a series of annual reports.
August 27, 2008: 2007 Findings on the Worst Forms of Child Labor released
The Labor Department today released its seventh annual report on the worst forms of child labor in 141 countries and territories that receive U.S. trade benefits. The report was prepared in accordance with the Trade and Development Act of 2000, which requires the President to submit an annual report to the Congress with respect to certain trade beneficiary countries' implementation of international commitments to eliminate the worst forms of child labor.
June 30, 2008: ILAB Published Solicitation for Cooperative Agreement Applications (SGA 08-07) for Research on Forced Labor
ILAB will award up to $1.25 million through a cooperative agreement to a qualified organization and/or Association to carry out research in eight (8) countries on forced labor in the production of goods, and to develop strategies to assist governments, industries, and/or third parties in taking action to address these problems. The deadline for submission of applications is August 8, 2008.

ILAB will award up to $20.5 million in cooperative agreement awards to organizations to combat exploitive child labor in Guinea, Jordan, Madagascar, Nicaragua, and Yemen. The deadline for submission of applications is June 24, 2008.
April 23, 2008: ILAB Announced that it will Hold a Public Hearing on Child Labor and Forced Labor in the Production of Goods on May 28, 2008
ILAB/OCFT will hold a public hearing to collect information on forced labor and child labor in the production of goods, at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 28, 2008. The hearing will take place in the Auditorium of the Frances Perkins Building, U.S. Department of Labor, 200 Constitution Ave., NW., Washington DC 20210, and will be open to the public. Presenters and attendees must register in advance.

April 8, 2008: ILAB Announced a Notice of Intent to Fund International Child Labor Elimination Projects in Fiscal Year 2008
A Federal Register notice, published today, states that ILAB intends to obligate approximately USD 21 million to organizations to address child labor and forced labor internationally. ILAB intends to award cooperative agreements to support efforts to address exploitive child labor in the following five countries: Guinea, Jordan, Madagascar, Nicaragua, and Yemen. ILAB also intends to award a cooperative agreement to support research on forced labor in selected countries to be determined.
