[Return to Publications Listing] Analysis of Construction Fatalities - The OSHA DataBase 1985-1989 Abstract [PDF 457K] This report presents the results of an analysis of the 3,496 construction fatalities investigated by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration and included in the Agency's Integrated Management Information System data base for the period 1985 to 1989. The analysis considered the variation of the number of fatalities over the 5-year period and the influence of factors such as geography and characteristics of the workforce, e.g., industry group, age, and union affiliation on these fatality statistics. The analysis also examined the causes of fatalities and the factors influencing accidents. Statistics from the OSHA data base are compared with construction fatality data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health and the National Safety Council. |
