Ambassador Ruth Davis, Director General of the Foreign Service and Director of Human Resources says that there has been “an increase in the number of Department employee military reservists being called up for active duty.” There are 1,010 reserve and guard members working in the Department and about 37 have been released to serve on active duty. The call-ups have been steady, and 60 employees have been affected by the war on terrorism--Operation Enduring Freedom.
Army Master Sgt. Jacquelyn Carrington (left) has been in the Army for 21 years. A Presidential Management Intern in the Bureau of Human Resources, she was recalled to active duty January 13 for an 18-month tour.
Timothy Walsh (right) recently returned to the Department after serving a year on active duty. He is a former Diplomatic Security agent who works in the Office of the Coordinator for Counterterrorism. Mr. Walsh, a 23-year Army veteran, is a Lieutenant Colonel in the Army Reserve’s Special Forces Command.
