Overview
To provide NPFVOA members and others with information, guidance, and access to training resources
that will help them protect employees’ health and safety, particularly in reducing and preventing
exposure to hazards associated with material handling, walking/working surfaces, machine guarding
and maintenance procedures, chemicals and emergency planning.

II. Implementation Team Meetings
We held three phone meetings to discuss projects and goals on: March 7, 2006, September 8, 2006, and
November 30, 2006.

Training and Education
- Events
OSHA attended the Pacific Marine Expo at the Quest Field Event Center in Seattle and supported and
attended the NPFVOA sponsored Lockout/Tagout Workshop. Lockout/tagout procedures for the fishing
industry have been emphasized by both OSHA and the NPFVOA following a recent amputation accident
on a fish processor off the coast of Alaska.

OSHA submitted an article for publication in NPFVOA’s Vessel Safety Program Newsletter on the
application of the OSHA Hexavalent Chromium Standard to the fishing industry. It was published in
the Winter 2007 edition.
OSHA reviewed sections of the NPFVOA Vessel Safety Program and provided comments.
Promoting the National Dialogue on Workplace Safety and Health

The NPFVOA and OSHA prepared an article on Hexavalent Chromium to be published in their
Association’s newsletter.
