Overview

To provide North Pacific Fishing Vessel Owner’s Association (NPFVOA) members and others with information, guidance, and access to training resources that will help them protect employees’ health and safety, particularly in reducing and preventing exposure to hazards associated with material handling, walking and working surfaces, machine guarding and maintenance procedures, chemicals and emergency planning.

We held three meetings to discuss projects and goals on: June 7, 2004; March 8, 2005; and December 9, 2005.

Training and Education
  • Events

    Following an amputation accident on a fish processor off the coast of Alaska, OSHA requested the help from the NPFVOA in advising the smaller employers in the industry on lockout/tagout (LOTO) requirements and procedures. The NPFVOA provided four half-day training classes on LOTO. OSHA participated in these training sessions.

Outreach and Communication
  • Events

    The alliance partners worked jointly with OSHA’s National Office to develop guidelines for the use of personnel transfer devices (billy pugh).

    Personnel transfer device guidelines were published on April 4, 2005. OSHA reviewed sections of the NPFVOA Vessel Safety Program and provided comments.

    The NPFVOA and OSHA prepared an article on LOTO to be published in their associations newsletter.
