Cooperative Extension Money Management Initiatives

  • Help families learn financial management concepts, processes and skills
    that increase consumer confidence and proficiency in order to enhance economic stability and security,
  • Provide tools and resources that assist in learning and practicing
    effective money management
  • Build the financial literacy confidence and skills of those working with
    adults and youth in the area of financial literacy



Money Management Workshops


Reaching family members when and where they need it, Cooperative Extension offers financial management educational programs held during the evening or during the day at places of employment. Topics include:

  • Developing a Spending Plan
  • Understanding Credit and Reducing Debt
  • Starting a Savings Program - How to Find $ and Where to Put $
  • Investing In Your Future
  • Women's Financial Education Program
  • Money on the Bookshelf

Financial Management Education Program

- A train the professional model

This 15-hour training is designed for para-professionals and professionals who work with low resource audiences. The objectives of this training are to provide those working with this target audience the skills necessary to provide budget and credit counseling, to increase their knowledge of resources to which they can refer clients and to provide them with the opportunity to practice these skills when working with others.



Youth Financial Literacy

Various programs are supported to develop financial literacy skills of youth. These programs build consumer confidence and establish foundations for responsible money management. These programs include:

  • The High School Financial Planning Program
  • Consumer Champions Quiz Bowl
  • Financial Champions and Consumer Savvy 4-H Project Areas
  • Money on the bookshelf literacy project
