EL PASO, Texas -- GE Medical Information Technologies has earned membership in the prestigious "Star" Voluntary Protection Program of the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). A recognition ceremony was held at the company's warehouse on 465 Pan American Drive, El Paso. "GE Medical's outstanding efforts include bridging the safety and health gap between American-based companies and Hispanic workers by offering extensive training in both English and Spanish," said Richard Tapio, area director for OSHA's Lubbock area office. "The company has maintained a below the industry rate for injuries and illnesses for the past three years." GE Medical Information Technologies, also known as GE Healthcare, is part of a larger GE Medical System which employs about 56 workers in El Paso. The company is classified for the wholesale distribution of surgical and other medical instrument and wholesale distribution of professional supplies used by medical practitioners. Corporate offices are located in Wisconsin. The Voluntary Protection Programs recognize and promote effective workplace safety and health management. Companies in the VPP achieve average injury rates 50 percent lower than other companies in their industry. From coast to coast, approximately 1,300 work sites representing more than 280 industries participate in the programs.
