Washington – The Advisory Council on
Employee Welfare and Pension Benefit Plans (known as the ERISA Advisory
Council) will convene by teleconference September 29 to discuss reports
and recommendations by its working groups to be submitted to the
secretary of labor.
The meeting will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. EDT.
The advisory council plans to begin with the Working Group on the Spend
Down of Retirement Assets, followed by the Working Group on Hard to
Value Assets/Target Date Funds and concluding with the Working Group on
Phased Retirement.
The meeting is open to the public. Those who wish to
listen to the teleconference may do so at the U.S. Department of Labor,
200 Constitution Ave. N.W., Room C5515-B in Washington, D.C.
Public comments may be submitted by September 22 to
Larry Good, the council’s executive secretary. Questions about the
meeting or requests to address the advisory council should be directed

The advisory council – established by the Employee
Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) – consists of 15 members
appointed to staggered three-year terms by the secretary of labor to
provide advice on policies and regulations affecting employee benefit
plans sponsored by private sector employers. The members represent the
general public, employers, employee organizations and the fields of
insurance, corporate trust, investment management, investment
counseling, accounting and actuarial counseling.
