Information and Resources for Collateral Duty Safety OfficersThe Bureaus have established and continue to maintain a staff of safety and occupational health collateral-duty (CDSO) professionals who operate at appropriate levels and advise management in the development and implementation of an effective safety and occupational health program. Each bureau has a written CDSHO program sufficient to satisfy the requirements and intent of applicable Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Departmental requirements. CDSOs typically devote around 10 percent of their duty time to safety and occupational health program responsibilities. The CDSOs in the bureaus are adequately equipped and competent to recognize and evaluate hazards of the working environment and to suggest general abatement procedures.
