DOI Safety and Occupational Health Seminars

In order for the Department of the Interior (DOI) to meet its strategic plan goals, as well as its other commitments to employee safety, everyone in the DOI family must:

• Understand the safety and health program and know how to provide leadership and supervision to it.
• Know how to identify and control hazards in order to minimize risk.
• Understand the fundamentals of investigating accidents and near-misses.
• Instill individual empowerment to handle emergency situations.
• Understand how to train employees to recognize risk to themselves and others, and perform their work in the safest and most efficient manner.
• Know and support DOI safety and health program goals, policies and procedures.

The bi-annual safety and occupational heath seminars provide a forum to inform and train a large number of DOI employees at the lowest possible costs.  These seminars also provide an opportunity for information sharing among peers across the bureaus and offices, and there are also the added benefits to DOI by the development of camaraderie among the participants.
