AIDS Helpline Offers Support in South AfricaLast year, the U.S. Agency for International Development provided $300,000 to the South African AIDS helpline, which made it possible to expand its capabilities. For the past 10 years, the toll-free, 24-hour helpline has helped callers who have HIV/AIDS or those who have questions about or want to talk about HIV/AIDS. The helpline receives about 20,000 calls per month, offering support and hope in a country where illiteracy is a significant problem. (USAID photo) |
