A large-scale work by American artist Elyn Zimmerman, specially created for the U.S. Embassy in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania (2003), was dedicated Thursday by Dar es Salaam Lord Mayor Kleist Sykes. The Friends of Art and Preservation in Embassies (FAPE) -dedicated to the representation of American culture in U.S. Embassies-commissioned the work as part of a far-reaching initiative to acquire and install site-specific works at new embassies around the world. The previous Embassy building in Tanzania was destroyed in 1998 by a terrorist bombing. [U.S. Embassy Photo] |
