United States Policy in SudanWashington, DC July 1, 2001 In mid-2001, a large scale humanitarian disaster appeared imminent in northern Sudan. Up to this point, USAID had not given assistance to the drought-affected civilians in the North. In order to restore humanitarian neutrality and avoid crisis, USAID delivered 17,400 tons of wheat to Port Sudan. Administrator Natsios visited the area in July 2001 to see the affects of the assistance. North of El Fashir, kids and women waiting to meet Administrator Natsios. USAID Photo ![]() |
