Secretary Powell To Attend Overseas Private Investment Corporation Nacala Corridor Signing Ceremony and Deliver Keynote Luncheon AddressSecretary of State Colin L. Powell will attend a signing ceremony organized by the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC) during the Corporate Council on Africa’s U.S. - Africa Business Summit. The ceremony will be held Friday, June 27, 2003 at 12:00 noon at the Washington Hilton in Washington, DC. Secretary Powell will also deliver the keynote luncheon address. Both events are open for press coverage. Secretary Powell will not respond to questions.
OPIC is providing nearly $30 million in financing to rehabilitate the port and rail facilities of the Nacala Corridor. The rail line runs from the deepwater port of Nacala on the Indian Ocean in northern Mozambique through Malawi to eastern Zambia. This will be the first integrated port and rail operation in Africa to be operated by the same concession and represents a new era for U.S. investment in Africa.
The signing ceremony will be in the East Ballroom. The keynote address will be in the International Ballroom. ALL PRESS MUST MEET IN THE INTERNATIONAL BALLROOM.

Final access time for camera set-up: 11:00 a.m.
All press must be in place by 12:00 noon
Media representatives may cover this event upon presentation of the following:
(1) a U.S. Government-issued identification card (Department of State, White House, Congress, Department of Defense or Foreign Press Center), (2) a media-issued photo identification card, or (3) an official letter from their employer on original letterhead verifying their employment as a journalist, accompanied by an official photo identification (driver’s license or passport).
