| BIOGRAPHY Linda Thomas-Greenfield Ambassador, Liberia Term of Appointment: 07/18/2008 to present Ms. Thomas-Greenfield most recently held the position of Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Bureau for African Affairs from January 6, 2006 to July 15, 2008. In 2007 she received the Presidential Meritorious Service Award. Prior to that she served as Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration from June 2004 to January 2006. Ms. Thomas-Greenfield is a career member of the Senior Foreign Service at the Minister Counselor level. She joined the Foreign Service in 1982. Her Africa focused assignments were in Nigeria, The Gambia, and Kenya. Other assignments include: Jamaica, Pakistan, and Switzerland. Her domestic assignments were in the Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration and the Office of the Director General of the Foreign Service. Ms. Thomas-Greenfield was the 2000 recipient of the Warren Christopher Award for Outstanding Achievement in Global Affairs. She is also the recipient of Superior, Meritorious, and Performance awards during her career. From 2003 – 2004, she was a member of and President of the 46th and last Senior Seminar, the Department’s most prestigious senior development program. Prior to joining the Department of State, Ms. Thomas-Greenfield taught Political Science at Bucknell University in Lewisburg, PA. She is a 1974 graduate from Louisiana State University with a BA in Political Science. She also holds a MA in Political Science from the University of Wisconsin where she completed work towards a PhD. During that period she studied and conducted research in Liberia. Linda Thomas-Greenfield was sworn in on July 18, 2008 as the next ambassador to Liberia by Secretary Rice. Ms. Thomas-Greenfield was nominated by President Bush in February 2008 and confirmed by the Senate on June 4, 2008.
