United States Takes the Helm of the Seed Initiative's Board of DirectorsThe Department of State today assumed the Chairmanship of the Supporting Entrepreneurs for Environment and Development (Seed) Initiative for one year. Seed promotes partnerships through its biennial global awards, designed to publicly recognize and support the most worthy newly-formed partnerships, through capacity-building activities for Seed award winners, and through its publication program.
In connection with today's announcement, Under Secretary of State for Democracy and Global Affairs Paula Dobriansky named the State Department's Special Representative for Sustainable Development, Jonathan Margolis, as the Chairman of the Seed Board of Directors.
During its Chairmanship, the Department of State will work with the Seed Board to focus the international community's attention on the impact partnerships are making to improve the quality of people's lives. Mr. Margolis, in his role as chairman, plans to help the Board implement its goals of presenting partnership successes at international fora and to expand on their achievements at home and abroad.
The United States joined Seed in 2004. Additional information is available from: http://www.sdp.gov/sdp/initiative/c15388.htm or www.seedinit.org.
