Mauritanian Elections

The United States congratulates the people of Mauritania on the successful conduct of the first round of legislative and municipal elections. International observers, including teams from our Embassy in Nouakchott, concur that these elections meet international standards and reflect the will of the Mauritanian people. We fully support Mauritania's transition to democracy, and hope the success of these elections will be repeated in the second round of legislative and municipal elections, and in the presidential elections next March.
