U.S. Labor Department's OSHA to participate in April 15 Latino Construction Workers Day in Duluth, Ga.

ATLANTA -- The U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) will participate in Latino Construction Workers Day in Duluth, Ga., on April 15 to promote workplace safety and health in the construction industry. OSHA's contribution will be safety classes, conducted in Spanish, to educate Latinos who are part of the construction community about how to prevent accidents on the job.

"Our participation in Latino Construction Workers Day should increase awareness among Latino workers about the construction industry's safety and health requirements," said Andre Richards, director of OSHA's Atlanta West Area Office. "It is through training efforts such as this event that we expect to see reduced numbers of fatalities and injuries."

A diverse group of organizations, including government agencies, academic institutions and companies, are planning the day's activities. The primary organizer is El Constructor Latino magazine with cooperation from the Mexican Consulate in Atlanta, OSHA and the Georgia Institute of Technology.

In addition to OSHA's classes, the day will include a job fair, exhibits, traditional Mexican food, children's activities, music and other entertainment.

The day's events are free. Interested construction workers do not need to pre-register.

News media are encouraged to cover all activities.
