LUBBOCK, Texas -- The U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) today formed an alliance with the Vintage Township Builders Guild to promote job safety and health in the Lubbock area. The alliance allows the Vintage Township Builders Guild to expand and enhance its training curriculum and to increase safety and health awareness throughout the community. The two year old guild, which is engaged in the construction of Vintage Township, a large residential community in south Lubbock, has a membership of nine local builders. "This agreement provides an opportunity for OSHA and the guild to discuss safety and health hazards, and how to maximize employee safety," said Frank Strasheim, OSHA's acting regional administrator in Dallas. "We are hopeful that this cooperative effort will help prevent fatalities and injuries within the local construction industry." OSHA alliances are part of U.S. Labor Secretary Elaine L. Chao's ongoing efforts to improve the safety and health of employees through cooperative relationships with trade associations, labor organizations, employers and government agencies. They provide a means for participating organizations to network and exchange information about hazards. OSHA has more than 450 national, regional and area office alliances nationwide with organizations committed to fostering safety and health in the workplace.
