Safety Training Sessions Offered in English and Spanish for Tri-State Industries SEATTLE -- Job safety training is the focus of a "SafetyFest of the Great Northwest" training conference, to be held Nov. 29-Dec. 2 at the Washington Group International (WGI)'s Office Complex- 720 Park Blvd., Boise, Idaho. Some 300 employees and managers are expected to attend the event, representing a broad range of industries in Idaho, Oregon and Washington state, including food factories, hospitals, print shops, trucking and construction. "SafetyFest of the Great Northwest" will be hosted by the U.S. Labor Department's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), WGI , the Idaho chapter of Associated General Contractors and the Idaho Division of Professional Technical Education. "Partnerships such as these in Idaho encourage businesses to develop and maintain effective safety and health programs," said Richard S.Terrill, OSHA's regional administrator in Seattle. Idaho Governor Dirk Kempthorne and Terrill will speak at the event. During the first two days, an OSHA 10-hour training certificate can be earned by attending construction, general industry or highway construction training. Two of the sessions will be presented in Spanish. The remaining two days will offer four-hour classes on crane safety, accident investigation, rigging safety, hearing conservation and sound level monitoring, environmental awareness, equipment safety, and safety management. The conference is free to participants, who will be able to attend up to six classes during the four days. Representatives from professional safety organizations and safety equipment companies will be available in a vendor area to talk about improvements in safety equipment and best practices.
