Leads to $141,000 Fine for Lawrenceville, Georgia Firm OSHA Discovers Serious Problems at Worksite in Loves Park, Ill. AURORA, Ill. -- A Lawrenceville, Ga. company is facing $141,000 in fines proposed by the U.S. Labor Department's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) following a January, 2003 inspection of a worksite at 1515 E. Riverside, Loves Park, Ill., where the company allowed roofers to work at serious safety risk. Peach State Roofing, Inc., whose worksites have been inspected by state or federal authorities 20 times over the last decade, received proposed penalties categorized as willful and repeat for failing to protect workers from falls and electrical hazards, and for failing to provide personal protective equipment necessary on such jobs. The company has been fined for fall protection issues several times over the course of its long inspection history. "OSHA's safety standards are designed to protect workers, especially in hazardous occupations such as roofing and construction," said U.S. Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao. "When standards are ignored, we will respond with vigorous enforcement." Peach State Roofing, Inc. employs about 150 workers at jobsites across the country, particularly in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee where the business maintains branch offices. According to OSHA Area Director Charles Shields, Aurora, Ill., the company has 15 working days from receipt of the citations to appeal before the independent Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission.
