WASHINGTON -- Assistant Secretary of Labor for Occupational Safety and Health John Henshaw today announced the appointment of four new members and reappointment of three others to the Advisory Committee on Construction Safety and Health (ACCSH). ACCSH advises the assistant secretary on standards, polices and practices related to the protection of construction workers from worksite hazards. The 15-member committee consists of five representatives each of employers and employees, two state government representatives, two public representatives, and one member designated by the Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS), normally from the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health. Newly appointed members are: Employee Representatives Thomas L. Kavicy, Safety Director/Special Assistant to the President, Chicago and Northeast Illinois District Council of Carpenters. Employer Representatives Linwood O. Smith, Vice President-Risk Management & Safety, T.A. Loving Company. Stephen M. Wiltshire, Safety Director, Turner Construction Company. Public Representative Michael W. Hayslip, President/Owner-National Excavation & Safety Training Institute. Reappointed members: Employee Representatives Frank Migliaccio, Executive Director of Safety, International Association of Bridge, Structural, and Ornamental Iron Workers. Employer Representatives Greg Strudwick, President Strudwick & Associates. State Safety and Health Representative Kevin Beauregard, Assistant Deputy Commissioner/Director of the Division of Occupational Safety and Health, North Carolina Department of Labor. OSHA's role is to assure the safety and health of America's workers by setting and enforcing standards; providing training, outreach, and education; establishing partnerships; and encouraging continual process improvement in workplace safety and health.
