FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- The U.S. Labor Department's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the Safety Council of Palm Beach County, Inc., (SCPBC) will mark its newly formed alliance to reduce motor vehicle and work zone traffic accidents in a signing ceremony on July 28, 2004, at the Solid Waste Authority Visitors Center in West Palm Beach. "Motor vehicle accidents are one of the leading causes of on-the-job fatalities," said Luis R. Santiago, OSHA's Ft. Lauderdale area director. "Our alliance with SCPBC will strengthen our outreach efforts by enhancing employer, employee and public awareness of roadway and construction work zone safety hazards." Santiago will sign on behalf of OSHA, and Executive Director Toni Burrows and Board of Director President John Williams will sign for the Safety Council of Palm Beach County, Inc. Since 2001, OSHA has created more than 160 alliances with organizations committed to fostering safety and health in the workplace.
