with Associated Builders and Contractors of Wisconsin Reducing work-related injuries and fatalities is top priority of partnership MADISON, Wis. -- The U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has formed a health and safety partnership with the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) of Wisconsin, affirming their shared commitment to providing a safer work environment for all employees and reducing injuries, illnesses and fatalities in Wisconsin's construction industry. ABC is a national trade association for the construction industry with more than 900 member firms in Wisconsin representing 35,000 employees. "This agreement provides an opportunity for OSHA and ABC to come together and demonstrate that we all benefit when management, labor and government dedicate themselves to providing a safe and healthful work environment," said George Yoksas, director of OSHA's Milwaukee Area Office. "We want every employee to go home at the end of the day healthy and uninjured." OSHA and ABC will work together to reduce by three percent annually serious injuries and illnesses of employees at ABC worksites in Wisconsin, increase the number of safety and health programs among contractors and subcontractors, and build a relationship focused on preventing work-related fatalities. OSHA's Strategic Partnership Program is part of U.S. Labor Secretary Elaine L. Chao's ongoing efforts to improve the health and safety of employees through cooperative relationships with trade associations, labor organizations, employers and employees. More than one million employees and more than 33,000 employers across the United States have participated in more than 440 strategic partnerships since the program began in 1998. Under the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970, employers are responsible for providing safe and healthful workplaces for their employees. OSHA's role is to assure the safety and health of America's working men and women by setting and enforcing standards; providing training, outreach and education; establishing partnerships; and encouraging continual process improvement in workplace safety and health.
