SANCHEZ NAMED OSHA'S BIRMINGHAM AREA DIRECTOR
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Roberto Sanchez has been appointed area director for OSHA's Birmingham area office, the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration announced today. Prior to his selection he served as an OSHA team leader in Savannah, Ga.
Sanchez joined OSHA in 1980, serving as a safety engineer in the Marlton, N.J., area office. In 1991, he was promoted to the safety supervisor position where he served until his move to the Savannah area office in 1997.
"Roberto has been a valuable member of the Savannah team and I know he will work well with employers, employees and members of the Birmingham community," said Cindy Coe, OSHA's regional administrator in Atlanta. "His bi-lingual skills will be especially helpful in developing safety and health programs for the growing number of Hispanic workers in the area."
Sanchez earned a bachelor of science degree in chemical engineering from the University of Puerto Rico. A registered, licensed chemist, he worked in the chemical industry for 8 years before entering public service.
As the Birmingham area director, Sanchez will be responsible for administering the federal Occupational Safety and Health Act in the 30 northern counties of Alabama.
The Birmingham OSHA office is located at Todd Mall, 2047 Canyon Rd., phone: (205) 731-1534.
