WASHINGTON -- Edwin G. Foulke, Jr., the U. S. Department of Labor's assistant secretary for the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), will hold a media availability on Monday, June 12, 2006, at 1:30 p.m. PDT in Seattle, Wash., during the American Society of Safety Engineers' (ASSE) 2006 Professional Development Conference and Exposition. Mr. Foulke is addressing the conference and will provide an update on OSHA's significant issues. He will also re-sign an OSHA workplace safety alliance with ASSE.
Under the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970, employers are responsible for providing a safe and healthful workplace for their employees. OSHA's role is to assure the safety and health of America's workers by setting and enforcing standards; providing training, outreach, and education; establishing partnerships; and encouraging continual process improvement in workplace safety and health.
