How do I sign up?

To enroll in direct deposit of your Social Security, Supplemental Security Income (SSI) or other federal benefits, you must have a checking or savings account with a financial institution.

There are three ways to enroll in direct deposit:

U.S. Citizen

Download and print an enrollment form
. If you are a resident of the United States (or a U.S. territory), download and print out the quick and easy FMS Form 1200 to enroll in direct deposit.

If you live or bank outside the United States, you may still be able to receive your payment by direct deposit. (You can have your payment sent to a U.S. bank or credit union regardless of where you live by signing up as described above.)

What if you don't have a checking or savings account?

If you want to use direct deposit but don't have a bank or credit union account, there are other options. Please call the Go Direct helpline at (800) 333-1795 (English) or (800) 333-1792 (Spanish) Mon - Fri 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. ET (excluding federal holidays) and ask for more information about opening an account.

How do I change my existing direct deposit?

You can use Go Direct only if you currently receive your Federal benefit payments by check and you want to begin receiving your benefits by Direct Deposit instead.

If you are already receiving your Federal benefit payment by Direct Deposit, and would like to have your payments sent to a new or different account, you should call the Federal agency that pays your benefits.
