UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE WEEKLY CLAIMS REPORT SEASONALLY ADJUSTED DATA The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 1.9 percent for the week ending June 3, unchanged from the prior week's unrevised rate of 1.9 percent. The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment during the week ending June 3 was 2,425,000, an increase of 15,000 from the preceding week's revised level of 2,410,000. The 4-week moving average was 2,417,250, an increase of 10,750 from the preceding week's revised average of 2,406,500.
The advance number of actual initial claims under state programs, unadjusted, totaled 284,137 in the week ending June 10, an increase of 23,908 from the previous week. There were 315,938 initial claims in the comparable week in 2005. The advance unadjusted insured unemployment rate was 1.7 percent during the
week ending June 3, unchanged from the prior week. The advance unadjusted number
for persons claiming UI benefits in state programs totaled 2,230,627, an increase
of 66,718 from the preceding week. A year earlier, the rate was 1.9 percent
and the volume was 2,432,328. Extended benefits were not available in any state during the week ending May 27. Initial claims for UI benefits by former Federal civilian employees totaled 1,333 in the week ending June 3, an increase of 130 from the prior week. There were 1,674 initial claims by newly discharged veterans, a decrease of 92 from the preceding week. There were 11,402 former Federal civilian employees claiming UI benefits for the week ending May 27, an increase of 618 from the previous week. Newly discharged veterans claiming benefits totaled 25,456, a decrease of 301 from the prior week. The highest insured unemployment rates in the week ending May 27 were in Alaska (3.7 percent), Michigan (3.1), Puerto Rico (3.1), Pennsylvania (2.7), New Jersey (2.4), Oregon (2.3), Arkansas (2.2), Massachusetts (2.2), Connecticut (2.1), Rhode Island (2.1), and Wisconsin (2.1). The largest increases in initial claims for the week ending June 3 were in Louisiana (+1,056), Tennessee (+725), Illinois (+569), Nebraska (+426), and Arizona (+249), while the largest decreases were in Michigan (-11,280), California (-6,122), New York (-2,466), Georgia (-2,242), and Texas (-2,136).
