UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE WEEKLY CLAIMS REPORT SEASONALLY ADJUSTED DATA The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 1.9 percent for the week ending March 4, unchanged from the prior week's unrevised rate of 1.9 percent. The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment during the week ending March 4 was 2,445,000, a decrease of 49,000 from the preceding week's revised level of 2,494,000. The 4-week moving average was 2,476,000, a decrease of 14,750 from the preceding week's revised average of 2,490,750.
The advance number of actual initial claims under state programs, unadjusted, totaled 291,258 in the week ending March 11, a decrease of 10,533 from the previous week. There were 307,061 initial claims in the comparable week in 2005. The advance unadjusted insured unemployment rate was 2.2 percent during the
week ending March 4, a decrease of 0.1 percentage point from the prior week. The advance unadjusted number
for persons claiming UI benefits in state programs totaled 2,873,166, a decrease
of 102,134 from the preceding week. A year earlier, the rate was 2.4 percent
and the volume was 3,085,920. Extended benefits were available in Louisiana during the week ending Feb. 25. Initial claims for UI benefits by former Federal civilian employees totaled 900 in the week ending March 4, an increase of 4 from the prior week. There were 1,979 initial claims by newly discharged veterans, an increase of 226 from the preceding week. There were 16,730 former Federal civilian employees claiming UI benefits for the week ending Feb. 25, a decrease of 1,122 from the previous week. Newly discharged veterans claiming benefits totaled 28,831, a decrease of 268 from the prior week. The highest insured unemployment rates in the week ending Feb. 25 were in Alaska (5.9 percent), Puerto Rico (4.8), Michigan (4.3), Pennsylvania (3.9), Rhode Island (3.9), Wisconsin (3.6), Massachusetts (3.4), New Jersey (3.4), Connecticut (3.2), and Vermont (3.2). The largest increases in initial claims for the week ending March 4 were in New York (+12,073), California (+7,919), Ohio (+2,546), Pennsylvania (+2,122), and Georgia (+1,669), while the largest decreases were in Massachusetts (-3,302), New Jersey (-1,724), Rhode Island (-1,538), Kentucky UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE DATA FOR REGULAR STATE PROGRAMS
