UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE WEEKLY CLAIMS REPORT SEASONALLY ADJUSTED DATA The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 1.9 percent for the week ending Feb. 11, unchanged from the prior week's revised rate of 1.9 percent. The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment during the week ending Feb. 11 was 2,495,000, an increase of 41,000 from the preceding week's revised level of 2,454,000. The 4-week moving average was 2,499,500, a decrease of 19,500 from the preceding week's revised average of 2,519,000.
The advance number of actual initial claims under state programs, unadjusted, totaled 269,781 in the week ending Feb. 18, a decrease of 40,252 from the previous week. There were 303,814 initial claims in the comparable week in 2005. The advance unadjusted insured unemployment rate was 2.4 percent during the
week ending Feb. 11, an increase of 0.1 percentage point from the prior week.
The advance unadjusted number for persons claiming UI benefits in state programs
totaled 3,026,527, an increase of 79,572 from the preceding week. A year earlier,
the rate was 2.6 percent and the volume was 3,239,778. Extended benefits were available in Louisiana during the week ending Feb. 4. Initial claims for UI benefits by former Federal civilian employees totaled 1,107 in the week ending Feb. 11, a decrease of 92 from the prior week. There were 2,100 initial claims by newly discharged veterans, a decrease of 19 from the preceding week. There were 20,036 former Federal civilian employees claiming UI benefits for the week ending Feb. 4, an increase of 458 from the previous week. Newly discharged veterans claiming benefits totaled 29,732, a decrease of 94 from the prior week. The highest insured unemployment rates in the week ending Feb. 4 were in Alaska (5.6 percent), Michigan (4.6), Pennsylvania (3.6), Wisconsin (3.6), Rhode Island (3.5), Mississippi (3.3), New Jersey (3.3), Puerto Rico (3.3), Idaho (3.2), Massachusetts (3.2), Oregon (3.2), and Vermont (3.2). The largest increases in initial claims for the week ending Feb. 11 were in Michigan (+8,011), California (+1,777), Indiana (+679), Alabama (+513), and Wisconsin (+397), while the largest decreases were in Georgia (-3,155), Virginia (-2,774), Missouri (-2,599), Pennsylvania (-1,850), and Illinois (-1,757).
