UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE WEEKLY CLAIMS REPORT

          SEASONALLY ADJUSTED DATA

In the week ending Nov.12, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 303,000, a decrease of 25,000 from the previous week's revised figure of 328,000. The 4-week moving average was 321,500, a decrease of 13,500 from the previous week's revised average of 335,000.

The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 2.2 percent for the week ending Nov. 5, unchanged from the prior week's unrevised rate of 2.2 percent.

The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment during the week ending Nov. 5 was 2,793,000, an increase of 3,000 from the preceding week's revised level of 2,790,000. The 4-week moving average was 2,811,250, a decrease of 17,250 from the preceding week's revised average of 2,828,500.  

UNADJUSTED DATA

The advance number of actual initial claims under state programs, unadjusted, totaled 281,847 in the week ending Nov. 12, a decrease of 58,470 from the previous week. There were 311,901 initial claims in the comparable week in 2004.

The advance unadjusted insured unemployment rate was 1.9 percent during the week ending Nov. 5, unchanged from the prior week. The advance unadjusted number for persons claiming UI benefits in state programs totaled 2,388,394, a decrease of 28,096 from the preceding week. A year earlier, the rate was 1.9 percent and the volume was 2,388,670.

Extended benefits were not available in any state during the week ending Oct. 29.

Initial claims for UI benefits by former Federal civilian employees totaled 2,040 in the week ending Nov. 5, an increase of 668 from the prior week. There were 1,987 initial claims by newly discharged veterans, an increase of 174 from the preceding week.

There were 17,382 former Federal civilian employees claiming UI benefits for the week ending Oct. 29, an increase of 454 from the previous week. Newly discharged veterans claiming benefits totaled 28,251, an increase of 130 from the prior week.

The highest insured unemployment rates in the week ending Oct. 29 were in Louisiana (11.0 percent), Mississippi (4.9), Alaska (4.2), Puerto Rico (4.1), Michigan (2.5), New Jersey (2.5), Pennsylvania (2.5), Oregon (2.4), Arkansas (2.3), and Massachusetts (2.1).

The largest increases in initial claims for the week ending Nov. 5 were in Louisiana (+11,326), Michigan (+7,252), Kentucky (+3,990), New York (+2,893), and Washington (+2,699), while the largest decreases were in Pennsylvania (-462), Ohio (-284), Oklahoma (-267), Arizona (-243), and Nebraska
(-151).
