UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE WEEKLY CLAIMS REPORT SEASONALLY ADJUSTED DATA The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 2.1 percent for the week ending June 4, an increase of 0.1 percentage point from the prior week's unrevised rate of 2.0 percent. The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment during the week ending June 4 was 2,641,000, an increase of 58,000 from the preceding week's revised level of 2,583,000. The 4-week moving average was 2,596,500, an increase of 11,250 from the preceding week's revised average of 2,585,250.
The advance number of actual initial claims under state programs, unadjusted, totaled 314,352 in the week ending June 11, an increase of 25,000 from the previous week. There were 313,930 initial claims in the comparable week in 2004. The advance unadjusted insured unemployment rate was 1.9 percent during the
week ending June 4, an increase of 0.1 percentage point from the prior week.
The advance unadjusted number for persons claiming UI benefits in state programs
totaled 2,435,044, an increase of 92,641 from the preceding week. A year earlier,
the rate was 2.1 percent and the volume was 2,674,791. Extended benefits were available in Alaska during the week ending May 28. Initial claims for UI benefits by former Federal civilian employees totaled 1,330 in the week ending June 4, a decrease of 42 from the prior week. There were 2,075 initial claims by newly discharged veterans, an increase of 267 from the preceding week. There were 12,220 former Federal civilian employees claiming UI benefits for the week ending May 28, an increase of 242 from the previous week. Newly discharged veterans claiming benefits totaled 25,482, a decrease of 1,225 from the prior week. The highest insured unemployment rates in the week ending May 28 were in Alaska (4.1 percent), Puerto Rico (3.8), Michigan (2.8), Oregon (2.8), Pennsylvania (2.7), New Jersey (2.6), Arkansas (2.4), Massachusetts (2.3), California (2.2), Connecticut (2.2), Rhode Island (2.2), South Carolina (2.2), and Wisconsin (2.2). The largest increases in initial claims for the week ending June 4 were in Pennsylvania (+1,682), Indiana (+1,656), Ohio (+1,134), Puerto Rico (+1,107), and North Carolina (+901), while the largest decreases were in Michigan (-9,081), Kentucky (-3,599), California (-2,472), Missouri (-2,198), and Florida UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE DATA FOR REGULAR STATE PROGRAMS
