UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE WEEKLY CLAIMS REPORT SEASONALLY ADJUSTED DATA The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 2.2 percent for the week ending Nov. 13, unchanged from the prior week's unrevised rate of 2.2 percent. The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment during
the week ending Nov. 13 was 2,755,000, a decrease of 29,000 from the preceding
week's revised level of 2,784,000. The 4-week moving average was 2,785,000,
a decrease of 16,250 from the preceding week's revised average of 2,801,250.
The advance number of actual initial claims under state programs, unadjusted, totaled 355,121 in the week ending Nov. 20, an increase of 43,295 from the previous week. There were 397,990 initial claims in the comparable week in 2003. The advance unadjusted insured unemployment rate was 2.0 percent during the
week ending Nov. 13, an increase of 0.1 percentage point from the prior week. The advance unadjusted number
for persons claiming UI benefits in state programs totaled 2,540,031, an increase
of 148,287 from the preceding week. A year earlier, the rate was 2.5 percent
and the volume was 3,137,692.
Extended benefits were not available in any state during the week ending Nov. 6. 659 individuals filed continued claims under the Federal Temporary Extended Unemployment Compensation (TEUC) program during the week ending Nov. 6. Initial claims for UI benefits by former Federal civilian employees totaled 1,709 in the week ending Nov. 13, a decrease of 512 from the prior week. There were 1,651 initial claims by newly discharged veterans, a decrease of 302 from the preceding week. There were 17,133 former Federal civilian employees claiming UI benefits for the week ending Nov. 6, a decrease of 1,512 from the previous week. Newly discharged veterans claiming benefits totaled 27,218, a decrease of 1,209 from the prior week. The highest insured unemployment rates in the week ending Nov. 6 were in Alaska (4.4 percent), Puerto Rico (3.1), Oregon (2.8), Michigan (2.6), New Jersey (2.6), Pennsylvania (2.6), Washington (2.5), Arkansas (2.4), California (2.4), and Massachusetts (2.3). The largest increases in initial claims for the week ending Nov. 13 were in Texas (+383), Puerto Rico (+261), the District of Columbia (+26), and the Virgin Islands (+9), while the largest decreases were in California (-6,266), Florida (-5,858), Illinois (-2,884), Indiana (-2,401), and Washington(-1,878).
