U.S. Department of Labor announces nearly $200,000 grant to assist trade-affected workers in Iowa

WASHINGTON — The U.S. Department of Labor today announced a $198,668 grant to assist approximately 60 workers affected by layoffs from Hearth & Home Technologies in Mount Pleasant, Iowa. Two rounds of layoffs have occurred at the fireplace products company in the past year.

"Today's grant will provide Iowans laid off from Hearth & Home Technologies with access to training, services and resources so they can return to work as quickly as possible," said Deputy Assistant Secretary of Labor for Employment and Training Brent R. Orrell.

This grant, awarded to Iowa Workforce Development, the state's employment security agency, will provide trade-affected Iowa workers with access to the full array of dislocated worker services, including those that are not available through the Trade Adjustment Assistance program. These services include skills assessment, counseling, case management, job search assistance, job placement and follow-up.

National Emergency Grants are part of the secretary of labor's discretionary fund and are awarded based on a state's ability to meet specific guidelines. For more information, visit www.doleta.gov/NEG.
