News Release ETA News Release: [02/13/2007] U.S. Secretary of Labor Announces $1.2 Million Grant to Assist Dislocated Workers in WisconsinWASHINGTON U.S. Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao today announced a grant of more than $1.2 million, with an initial release of $537,282, to the state of Wisconsin to provide employment-related assistance to approximately 400 workers dislocated as a result of closures and layoffs in the state. Closure announcements were made by Chilton Products Inc. located in Chilton, Wis., and Tecumseh Power located in New Holstein, Wis. Additionally, Brillion Iron Works of Brillion, Wis., announced layoffs. "Wisconsin workers affected by these layoffs and plant closures will be provided with training and reemployment services to help them start new careers," said Secretary Chao. "This $1.2 million grant will make available to dislocated workers the skills training, job placement and other assistance they need to get new jobs in growing industries." Approximately 300 Tecumseh Power employees were previously certified as eligible to apply for Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) on May 24, 2005. The grant, awarded to the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development, will provide a full array of services to impacted workers from Chilton Products and Brillion Iron Works. Services will include career and occupational skills training, employment readiness and job placement. The grant also will provide TAA-certified Tecumseh Power workers with services not covered by the TAA program. Services to Tecumseh workers may include assessment, case management and job placement assistance. National Emergency Grants are part of the Secretary of Labor's discretionary fund and are awarded based on a state's ability to meet specific guidelines.
