U.S. Secretary of Labor Tours New Orleans Job Training Facility

NEW ORLEANS, La.—U.S. Labor Secretary Elaine L. Chao today visited the New Orleans Workforce Partnership Adult Career Center. The center is one of more than 3,500 One-Stop Career Centers nationwide, supporting the employment needs of job seekers and the human resource needs of business.

“One-Stop Career Centers are a valuable resource for workers who are looking for jobs and for employers looking for workers. The centers are welcoming and helpful places where workers can access core employment assistance services and get the training they need to find good jobs in high growth sectors,” said U.S. Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao. “These are also good places for employers seeking workers.”

The New Orleans center at 1340 Poydras offers an array of services. The center’s Career Resource Room provides job seekers office supplies, telephones, fax machines, copy machines and computers to help with their job search. Other services available to job seekers include job training, on-the-job training, continuing education programs, financial aid information, resume writing and job search workshops.

Businesses can get help with meeting state and local licensing requirements and accessing tax credits at the One-Stop Business Center. Prospective employers can also post job openings, search applicant resumes, receive customized labor market information and, in cases of high demand, high-growth industries, sometimes access customized training services for new employees.

In response to the special needs of young people, the center offers strategies for finding a job, interview and resume preparation, internship or summer job placement, GED exam preparation, tutoring and mentoring.

The U.S. Labor Department’s Employment and Training Administration is working with One-Stop Career Centers to realign and improve the workforce system’s capacity to meet the changing needs of business by assisting with recruitment, training and retention of skilled workers. Employers and job seekers may locate their nearest One-Stop Career Center by calling 1-877-US2-JOBS or by visiting America’s Service Locator at www.servicelocator.org.
