News Release ETA News Release: [06/22/2004] U.S. Labor Department and Menlo Worldwide Form National Business PartnershipWASHINGTONThe U.S. Department of Labor today announced a national business partnership with Menlo Worldwide, a global company that provides supply chain services. The collaboration creates a bridge between the private sector and the federal workforce investment system. The workforce investment system is partnering with employers across the country to assist workers in obtaining skills for the jobs that employers need to fill, said Emily Stover DeRocco, assistant secretary of labor for employment and training. Menlo Worldwides partnership with the public workforce system reflects our commitment to prepare current and future generations of employees for good jobs with career ladders in growing and emerging industries. The Menlo Worldwide companies employ 12,000 workers to provide services in supply chain management, including logistics and transportation. The company specializes in freight forwarding and supply chain management to improve the efficiency of its customers warehouse inventory and freight movement. The Menlo Worldwide companies have staffing needs in a wide array of fields including forklift operators, warehouse managers, and truck drivers. Through this partnership, Menlo Worldwide will team with local One-Stop Career Centers initially in ten statesPennsylvania, Texas, Tennessee, California, Illinois, Michigan, New York, Kansas, Ohio, and Oregonto hire and retrain qualified workers. The partnership will also provide continual skills upgrading for incumbent workers, many of whom are long-term employees.
