Unemployment Insurance Integrity to be Focus of April
15-16 Conference in Norfolk, Va.
NORFOLK, Va.The U.S.
Labor Departments Employment & Training Administration will
co-sponsor a conference with the National Association of State Workforce
Agencies (NASWA) focusing on ways to prevent, detect and recover overpayments
in state unemployment insurance programs.
Hosted by the Virginia Employment Commission, the second professional
development conference on unemployment insurance integrity will be held April
15 and 16 at the Sheraton Waterside Hotel.
The Administration is very committed to maintaining strong
integrity in the nations unemployment insurance system, and reducing
overpayments is a high priority, said Emily Stover DeRocco, head of
employment and training for the Labor Department. This meeting supports
state efforts to reduce fraud, abuse and other payment errors by sharing
successful practices.
The conference will highlight exciting new tools to verify the identity
of those filing new claims and quickly detect claims from individuals who have
returned to work. Other topics to be presented include Internet resources, data
crossmatches for overpayment detection and recovery, system security threats,
prosecuting fraud, and identity theft prevention and prosecution.
