Media Note Office of the Spokesman Washington, DC January 10, 2007 Arab Women to Share Tech and Business Experiences at San Francisco EventOn Thursday, January 11, six Arab women will be in San Francisco, California, to share their experiences implementing an innovative program that provides women in the Middle East with cutting-edge training in business planning, professional development and information technology. The women, from Iraq, Kuwait, Oman, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Yemen, will participate in a panel discussion moderated by Robert Rosenthal of the San Francisco Chronicle at 5:30 p.m. at Hotel Nikko. Through funding by the U.S. Department of State's Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI), the women also will receive intensive professional development skills training to take back to their countries as part of the Women in Technology program. The Middle East Partnership Initiative, which supports greater freedom and opportunity for people in the region, has devoted more than $293 million in four years to reformers to support the spread of democracy, enhance educational opportunities, and continue the empowerment of women.
