Taken Question from Daily Briefing of March 8, 2002

Cuba: Vanessa Lopez and Family

Question:  Any comment on the case of American Citizen Vanessa Lopez and her family?

Answer:  The U.S. Interests Section in Havana has called and sent a diplomatic note to the Cuban Ministry of Foreign affairs expressing our concern about the welfare of Vanessa Lopez and asking for a timetable for the family’s return.  We are awaiting a reply.

While Vanessa Lopez is the only U.S. citizen involved, we are aware of the rest of her family’s situation and are watching the government of Cuba’s handling of the case closely.
