Secretary of State Colin L. Powell Names U.S. Delegation To Conference on Anti-Semitism Sponsored by the Organization For Security and Cooperation in Europe, April 28-29, 2004

Secretary of State Colin L. Powell today named five Public Members to serve on the U.S. delegation to the Conference on Anti-Semitism, sponsored by the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE). The Secretary earlier appointed former New York City Mayor Ed Koch to head the U.S. delegation to the conference that the Federal Republic of Germany will host in Berlin April 28-29.

Delegation members named by the Secretary are:

Betty Ehrenberg, Institute for Public Affairs, Orthodox Union of Jewish Congregations
Stephan Hoffman, President and CEO of United Jewish Communities
Jay Lefkowitz, Washington Attorney
Jack Rosen, President of the American Jewish Congress
Fred Zeidman, Chairman of the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Council

U.S. Government members:

U.S. Ambassador to the OSCE Stephan Minikes
Ambassador Edward B. O’Donnell, Special Envoy for Holocaust Issues
Tevi Troy, the Executive Office of the President

The delegation will also include several members of Congress, to be named later.

The OSCE hosted an initial conference on anti-Semitism in Vienna last June. The Berlin conference will build on the results of the Vienna meeting in an effort to identify measures that member states can take to combat anti-Semitism and promote tolerance.

The OSCE is made up of 55 nations, located in Europe, Eurasia and North America.
