Davenport Man Sentenced on Federal Drug Charges

OCT 29 -- (DAVENPORT, IA) - On October 27, 2008, Martraz Porshea Brown, age 29, formerly of Davenport, Iowa was sentenced by United States District Court Judge John A. Jarvey to 180 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to conspiracy to distribute at least 50 grams of cocaine base, announced United States Attorney Matthew G. Whitaker.

Brown was also ordered to serve 5 years of supervised release after his incarceration, an assessed to pay $100 to the Crime Victim Fund. Brown was arrested on November 19, 2007 and pled guilty on April 14, 2008. Brown was found responsible for the distribution of at least 4.5 kilograms of crack cocaine and received an enhancement in his sentence for obstruction of justice based on his flight from law enforcement officers on October 9, 2007 and avoiding arrest until November 19, 2007.

This case was prosecuted in the United States Attorney’s Office in the Southern District of Iowa.

This investigation was conducted by the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement and the Davenport Police Department.
