Background Press Briefing on International Partnership on Avian and Pandemic Influenza Senior Officials Meeting

A senior State Department official will be joined by senior officials of the Department of Health and Human Services for a background briefing on the International Partnership on Avian and Pandemic Influenza Senior Officials Meeting hosted by the Department of State in Washington, D.C. on Thursday and Friday, October 6-7, 2005. The background briefing will take place today, Thursday, October 6, in the State Department Briefing Room (Room 2209) at 4:00 PM.

The main objective of the Senior Officials Meeting is to affirm the commitment of participating countries to work together in combating avian influenza and to jointly develop a plan of action to supplement international efforts.

Member of the press who do not have a State Department building pass should arrive at the 23rd Street entrance by 3:45 PM for clearance through security and access to the briefing room.

Media representatives may attend this background briefing upon presentation of one of the following: (1) a U.S. Government-issued identification card (Department of State, White House, Congress, Department of Defense, or Foreign Press Center), (2) a media-issued photo identification card, or (3) a letter from their employer on letterhead verifying their employment as a journalist, accompanied by an official photo identification (driver’s license or passport).
