"All Americans: Images of Heritage and Citizenship" Art Exhibit to be Inaugurated at U.S. Department of State

23 Texas Students to Share American Culture and Experience with the World

Assistant Secretary of State for Educational and Cultural Affairs Dina Habib Powell will inaugurate the "All Americans: Images of Heritage and Citizenship" exhibit and unveil artworks by 23 Texas students, grades 1-12, at a reception on October 11, 2005, at 4:00 p.m. in the Benjamin Franklin Room, U.S. Department of State (2201 C Street, NW, Washington, DC).  Joining her in making remarks will be Ricardo Hernandez, Executive Director, Texas Commission on the Arts, and Debbie Graves Ratcliffe, Director, Communications and State Board of Education Support Division, Texas Education Agency.

Through a partnership initiative of the Department’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and the Texas Commission on the Arts, these artworks have been reproduced for presentation to local audiences at U.S. embassies and consulates worldwide. Designed to promote respect and a sense of common interests and values between the people of the United States and the people of other countries, the exhibit offers a youthful perspective on America’s national character while highlighting the ideals of democracy, patriotism and our shared responsibility as a nation.

Media representatives are invited to cover the formal remarks and may interview selected student artists and teachers at the reception:

Pre-set time for cameras:            3:15 p.m. from the 23rd Street entrance.
Final access time for all press:    3:45 p.m. from the 23rd Street entrance.

Media representatives attending this event must present one of the following: (1) a U.S. government-issued identification card (Department of State, White House, Congress, Department of Defense, or Foreign Press Center), (2) a media-issued photo identification card, or (3) a letter from his or her employer on letterhead verifying employment as a journalist, accompanied by an official photo identification (driver’s license or passport).
