Through the Alliance, OSHA and NFIB will make health and safety information and compliance assistance resources available to all employers, especially small and independent businesses, and communicate the need for the implementation of safety and health management system programs in the workplace. The Alliance's goals include

Outreach and communication:
  • Work with other Alliance participants on safety and health issues and projects that impact small and independent businesses, especially safety and health management programs, which are addressed and developed through the Alliance Program.
  • Develop and promote accessible and easy-to-use tools to encourage and help small business owners create and implement effective safety and health management programs in the workplace.
  • Assist in the testing and development of safety and health resources for small businesses.
Promoting the national dialogue on workplace safety and health:
  • Convene or participate in forums, round table discussions, or stakeholder meetings on independent businesses' safety and health issues including safety and health management programs, to help forge innovative solutions in the workplace.

Activities and Events
  • October 20-26, 2008: Drug Free Work Week 2008. The NFIB and a number of other Alliance Program participants are supporting Drug-Free Work Week 2008. The Week, held annually in October, is a public awareness campaign that highlights the fact that being drug free is key to protecting workplace safety and health and encourages workers with alcohol and drug problems to seek help.
  • May 4-10, 2008: 2008 North American Occupational Safety and Health (NAOSH) Week. The NFIB and a number of other Alliance Program participants supported 2008 NAOSH Week, "Safety is Good Business." Sponsored annually by American Society of Safety Engineers and the Canadian Society of Safety Engineering, the Week focuses on the importance of preventing injuries and illnesses in the workplace.
  • April 24, 2007: NFIB Area Workers' Comp & OSHA Meeting, Monroe, Louisiana. Alex Novas, Compliance Assistance Specialist, Region VI, Baton Rouge, Louisiana Area Office, USDOL-OSHA, gave a presentation on OSHA's regulations, safety programs and inspections.
  • April 17, 2007: NFIB Area Workers' Comp & OSHA Meeting, Lake Charles, Louisiana. Alex Novas, Compliance Assistance Specialist, Region VI, Baton Rouge, Louisiana Area Office, USDOL-OSHA, gave a presentation on OSHA's regulations, safety programs and inspections.
  • August 8-9, 2006: 2006 OSHA Annual Consultation Conference, Dallas, Texas.
    • Lee Anne Jillings, Director, Office of Outreach Services and Alliances, Directorate of Cooperative and State Programs, USDOL-OSHA; Ron Tom, Manager, Texas Occupational Safety and Health Consultation Program and Joann Natarajan, Compliance Assistance Specialist, Region VI, Austin, Texas Area Office, USDOL-OSHA, participated in the “Onsite Consultation: Participating in Alliances” workshop. The workshop was presented twice.
  • June 18-20, 2006: 2006 NFIB Small-Business Summit, Grand Hyatt Hotel, Washington, D.C.
    • OSHA and NFIB shared an Alliance exhibit booth during the conference.
  • July 2005 – April 2006: NFIB Area Action Council Workers' Compensation Meetings. Through the OSHA and NFIB Alliance, OSHA representatives spoke during the NFIB's Area Action Council Workers' Compensation Meetings and provided small business owners with information on OSHA's compliance assistance activities and resources, Hispanic outreach and On-site Consultation Program.
