MEMORANDUM FOR BUREAU PERSONNEL OFFICERS

This memorandum announces the Department of Justice Training Community Meeting to be held from 9 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 1, 2002. I am pleased to announce that the meeting will be hosted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and held in Quantico, Virginia at the FBI Academy http://www.fbi.gov/hq/td/academy/academy.htm. Bureau Personnel Officers are encouraged to send the heads of their training organizations in addition to prior attendees of Department training meetings.

The morning session of this event will include an opportunity to tour portions of the FBI Academy facility and to learn about current FBI training initiatives including the Bureau's new learning management system. The afternoon session will include an update on the Office of Personnel Management's e-Learning Initiative, a discussion of creating a formal process for sharing training content development within the Department, and information on other training legislation, policy and professional development issues. Organizations are encouraged to suggest speakers or topics for the meeting. Attendees will be asked to present information on training strategies or initiatives currently underway in their organization.

Please identify the individual(s) responsible for human resource development in your organization, who will be attending the meeting. An agenda and specific directions to the event will be sent directly to participants prior to the meeting.
