MEMORANDUM FOR BUREAU PERSONNEL OFFICERS AND EXECUTIVE OFFICERS

FROM:            Debra M. Tomchek
                         Director, Human Resource
                         Justice Management Division

SUBJECT:      FY 2004 Senior Executive Service Forum Series

This memorandum and attached information announces the five seminars in the Senior Executive Service (SES) Forum Series for Fiscal Year 2004. The Department of Justice, in partnership with a consortium of Federal agencies led by the Department of Labor, is sponsoring this series, which is funded by the Personnel Staff. Please distribute the memo and attached information to your SES members.

All seminars in the series will be held at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center, 1300 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW., Washington, DC 20004.

The first seminar entitled: Strategic Exploration: The Missing Link in Planning will be held on January 20, 2004, featuring Dr. Joel Barker. Dr. Barker will be discussing his concept of the paradigm shift, a process that explains how radical change takes place in any human endeavor. In the mid-'80s, Dr. Barker began working with organizations to explain the importance of vision. His video, The Power of Vision, became the second best selling business video of all time.

Since the early ‘90s, Dr. Barker has focused on complex systems theory and ecological research. The results can be found in his best selling video, Wealth, Innovation & Diversity: Putting our Differences to Work in the 21st Century. He recently completed his new book, Five Regions of the Future: a Revolutionary Roadmap to the Technologies of the 21st Century.

There is no cost for attending the seminars. The deadline for registration is two weeks prior to each scheduled seminar. SES members can register by sending an e-mail to Leadership.Development@usdoj.gov. Each seminar will be filled on a first-register, first-attend basis with the first 25 registrants. All confirmed participants will be notified when they are on the roster. If you have questions, or need additional information, please contact Mary R. Jones, on (202) 616-3619.
