MEMORANDUM TO HUMAN RESOURCES OFFICERS
                                        EXECUTIVE OFFICERS

FROM:            Debra M. Tomchek
                         Director, Human Resources

SUBJECT:      National Moment of Remembrance

To honor our fellow Americans who have died in service to the Nation, Congress established the White House Commission on the National Moment of Remembrance. Specifically, the Commission’s charter is to reemphasize the importance of this holiday. The National Moment of Remembrance provides an opportunity for the Nation to collectively pause on Memorial Day to honor our fellow Americans who paid the ultimate price for our freedom. The President of the United States has given the Moment his personal support and asks all Americans to join him in this act of national unity.

We are asked, wherever we may be–with family, with friends, or alone–to honor America’s fallen on Memorial Day, Monday, May 30, 2005, at 3 p.m. local time, in any of the following ways:

  • Stop what you are doing and pause for one minute of reflection for our fallen heroes.
  • If driving, turn on your vehicle’s headlights.
  • If you plan to visit a loved one’s gravesite on Memorial Day, do so at 3 p.m. and pause to reflect.

Attached are posters to be distributed throughout your component. The National Moment of Remembrance campaign is unique because is designed to encourage the participation of Americans of all ages, wherever and however they are spending America’s day of remembrance. Please inform your colleagues about this commemoration. Please visit the Commission’s website, www.remember.gov, for additional information and downloadable promotional materials.
