MEMORANDUM FOR HEADS OF DEPARTMENT COMPONENTS

SUBJECT:      The Attorney General's 49th Awards Recipients

The Attorney General has asked me to formally notify you of the recipients of the Attorney General's Awards, which will be presented at the 49th Annual Attorney General's Awards Ceremony on Wednesday, August 1, 2001, 2 p.m., at Constitution Hall. The Attorney General looks forward to seeing you at the Ceremony, and at the reception following the Ceremony.

The attached listing shows the Attorney General's choices for each award category based on the recommendations of the combined Incentive Awards Board/John Marshall Panel.

For this Ceremony, you are reminded that Department components are authorized to pay for the travel expenses of an out-of-town award recipient's spouse (or other individual related by blood or affinity, whose close association with the employee is the equivalent of a family relationship). This authority is discretionary, and heads of components may decide not to incur these expenses due to budgetary restraints or other legitimate reasons.

I request that you immediately notify your employee(s) that the Attorney General has chosen him/her to receive an Attorney General Award. My staff will be working with your designated Awards Coordinator to distribute invitations, arrange for cash awards, and coordinate other details related to the Ceremony. Please have your staff reconfirm the spelling of names and titles for accuracy; corrections should be forwarded no later than July 18, 2001.
