Private Health Insurance

Health insurance is a problem for those who are not employed or who are employed but their employer does not offer a health insurance benefit. For some Federal employees, the concern is for their adult children who do not have health insurance and do not qualify for government assistance like Medicaid or Medicare. If you are looking for an individual plan for your children, family member or friend, you might consider asking your home or car insurance agent to suggest a health insurance agent, or you can search for an agent on the internet for an online broker. Two such online brokers are www.EHealthInsurance.com and www.Insure.com you might check with. Once you have identified an insurance provider, call to see if their company sells to individuals. Also check to see if your state runs a high risk health insurance pool. The state of Maryland has established a high risk health insurance plan. Information about the Maryland plan can be obtained at www.marylandhealthinsuranceplan.state.md.us or call 866-780-7105. Consider checking out the guide Georgetown University compiled of state-by-state health insurance resources titled A CONSUMER GUIDE FOR GETTING AND KEEPING HEALTH INSURANCE, which can be located at www.healthinsuranceinfo.net to determine if your state offers a high risk health insurance plan.
